NON PROFITS

DE-JU might be a young artisanal partnership between two friends, but as we grow ... we have decided to donate a percentage of our annual gross profits to a non-profit organization of our choice - which will change every year.

This year (2011), we will start with Kiva.org as no donations are too small ... and we have to start somewhere ... so why not start where our small change will be gladly accepted and have the most impact.

Help us grow so that we may help others grow as well!

COST

Each box contains a combination of orange rinds dipped in sugar, dipped in chocolate, and some only half dipped in chocolate (see images below)

Cost Wholesale: $7.50

Each box contains 50 grams (1.8 oz) of heaven that will probably only last you a few days (if you can resist that long) ... and the expiration date is mooonnnnnttthhhs in the future (each box has a lot # and a "best before .... date") so they make great gifts!

At this time, we reserve the right to change the price at any time and without notice.

INGREDIENTS

Donated Oranges, Organic Fair Trade Cane Sugar, Organic Fair Trade Dark Chocolate, Love

WHERE TO BUY

At this time, we only sell by word of mouth to people in the Los Angeles area who can actually come and get the boxes from us directly!

More locations coming sOOooooon!!!!

SHIPPING & HANDLING

Because of the fragility of the item, and because chocolate is so sensitive to temperature changes, especially heat, we won't ship during the year's hottest months, or if the weather is particularly hot.

Meanwhile, we are working on creating a well insulated packaging option, but that means more shipping & handling costs for you and more waste in the environment. Still pondering if it's worth it ...

This is a work in progress. To be continued ...

TOO MANY ORANGES or GRAPEFRUITS ON YOUR TREE?

If you live in Los Angeles, have one or more tree(s) that is crumbling under its weight of oranges (free of pesticides, insecticides and other chemicals), and would like to give them to us ... we will gladly come and 'pick' a few bags ...

We are looking for true oranges, preferably large and/or thick skinned, not tangerines, not clementines, or any hybrids. If the oranges are good and healthy, and we can use their skins, then only will we pick them ...

We are also looking for grapefruits ... yellow or pink, size or shape does not matter at this time.

For 2011, we have decided to donate a small percentage of the gross annual profits to kiva.org. So by giving us your oranges, you will start a chain reaction of generous actions ... how could that be any better?!?!?! AND - we will give you a box of Orangettes.

GRAPEFRUIT "orangettes" ...

Coming Soon!

ACKNOWLEDGMENT

Christmas day 2010 was spent at a very talented friend's house where one of us tasted, for the first time, homemade orangettes made by his brother.

A few months later, colleagues, clients and friends all started giving us oranges from their trees. Overwhelmed by the quantity, we started experimenting with nothing to loose. That is how we came to make these little treats.

I do want to give a special acknowledgment and thank you to Ray B. @ Xiem Pottery Studio because of his generosity, we were able to create the very first batch of Orangettes! And thank you to Suzette M. for her warm support and encouragement!

The goal now is to never buy oranges, as this city is filled with trees crumbling under the weight of unpicked oranges. It is a way we can use what would be discarded and wasted anyways and give it a new life.

Along those lines, that makes the oranges free of pesticides and other chemicals (we know our friends), the chocolate and sugar being used are both organic and fair trade, and the packaging is (new & clean) but made of 100% recycled content!

THANK YOU ...

This page is to thank those of you who have donated beautiful oranges and grapefruits (free of pesticides and other chemicals).

ORANGE SYMBOLISM

The orange is a symbol of physical health and spiritual vitality, evoking comparison with the fruit of knowledge and the luscious indulgences of the body.
